Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
About a month ago, I started noticing knee joint pain in my left knee. It is most noticeable when there is a bit of pressure on the knee toward the sides. It has occurred most when hiking. It does not bother with moderate straight line walking. It seems a bit better with Ibuprofen.
Few important information is missing to reach a definite diagnosis and management? What is the age? what is the weight? Is symptom worsening? Most common diagnosis after 50 is Osteoarthritis -a degenerative disorder. For this you have to do key five things- Quadricep strenthening exercise (can consult physiotherapy/ watch a video) Loose weight if your are obese Take calcium and Vitamin-D supplimentation Apply local analgesis (Volini gel/spray) If pain is severe then you can add oral analgesic periodically Pain does not subside completely but symptoms decrease. With age there is chance of worsening of condition slowly. Rapid worsening hints other etiology to be investigated (RA and others)
